Background

Our house was built in 1900 and we are trying to keep a general period feeling as much as possible (within reason). For the most part, the current location of the appliances will stay the same. We will also be doing any demo work of existing cabinets (we're ready to start over). We will also do any tiling for the counter tops. We're pretty much just looking to have the cabinets installed.

Features

Here are some things we would like to incorporate into the kitchen:

• We're looking for white (possibly off-white) cabinets - that is painted (wood). We're pretty sure that this goes with the period, but if you have other suggestions then we'd love to hear them.
  • Now we're thinking darker wood might look better --Malcom 15:56, 10 March 2007 (EST)
• The ceiling is 8' 7" and we'd like the upper cabinets to go all the way to the ceiling.
  • For a quote, we'd like to see a bid for the upper cabinets to have a 12" or 18" section that has glass fronts and would be a showcase like, with lights (we should be able to pull electrical from the bottom ones). If possible, we'd like to see this separated out (just to see how much it would cost).
• We like high counters. Our current counters are 37 1/2" - we don't want to go any lower than 36" for sure, but 37" would be about right.
• For drawer hardware, we're looking for the old-fashioned bin pull type.
• For cupboard hardware, we're looking for a latch system.
• Recycling center (something similar to this or this)
• Lighting under the upper cabinets (we already have the electrical ran)
• Flour/sugar/baking friendly cabinet
• bins that roll out for lower cabinets
• Some rolling shelves for lower cabinets (like this)
• Broom closet in section B

• For this section we are only looking for upper cabinets.
• The workbench that is currently there, will stay.
• We are thinking that some cabinets that have a glass front would be nice - sort of looking like an old window with wooden dividers.

B

• Both upper and lower cabinets here.
• If possible, we would like a broom closet on the far left (where the microwave currently is).
• In the corner here, we currently have a lazy susan - we would like to put one in again.

• Both upper and lower cabinets here, but no upper cabinets over the window.
• We were thinking about some exposed shelves to the left and right of the window.
• Sink is centered directly on the main kitchen window and will remain the same.

Dimensions:

• Window is 40 1/2" wide.
• 32" of wall to the left of the window.
• sink: 33" wide
• Dishwasher: 24" wide

• We would like cabinets to go over the refrigerator.
• We also have a lazy suzy in the corner here (it's an odd ball because of the refrig).

No upper cabinets here. Stove will stay in the same place.

• Stove: 30" x 26 1/2"

• Small sink here (16" wide), will stay.
• This would be the ideal place for a recycling center.
• The place where the white cabinets are is pretty narrow. Along that wall (the one that is 5' 9"), the cabinets can only be 12" deep.
